Convicted rapist on loose in western Kansas

Several law enforcement agencies, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, are looking for a convicted rapist after he escaped from the Ness County Jail. Benito Cardenas, Jr. escaped Friday around 10:30 p.m.

KWCH 12 reports he was awaiting sentencing after being convicted of rape and aggravated sodomy under Jessica's Law. The crimes carry a possible sentence of life in prison.

Cardenas is 5-foot-11-inches, weighs roughly 230 pounds, has a tear drop tattoo under his left eye and tattoos on his arms and chest.
