Police investigate shooting at east side Burlington Coat Factory
Wichita police have a 27-year-old man in custody after a shooting at Burlington Coat Factory on the city's east side.
The shooting was reported around 10:30 a.m. Monday inside the business at 8225 East Kellogg.
Police Captain Hassan Ramzah said a loss prevention employee saw suspicious behavior and confronted a man at the front of the store. The man then brought out a revolver and fired one shot at the employee, but the bullet did not hit anyone.
Employees and customers ran from the store and police were called. Ramzah said officers used a taser to subdue the gunman. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
There had been early reports of a possible second suspect in the incident, but Ramzah said the man in custody appears to be the only one involved. Police were talking to a number of witnesses at the scene.
Our news partners at KWCH, Channel 12 are reporting that a security guard confronted the man and asked if he was going to pay for a soda he drank in the store.
