Two dead in Marion County accident
A double fatal accident left several people injured, including two at a Wichita hospital.
Kansas Highway Patrol troopers said a woman and child died in the crash. Investigators said a 2010 Nissan was southbound on US 56 as a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado was northbound about four miles south of Herington just before noon Friday in Marion County.
Troopers said the Nissan went left of the center line and struck the Silverado. The Silverado came to rest on the roadway, while the Nissan entered the east ditch and overturned. The driver of the Nissan, 21-year-old Bryan Alfred of Junction City, is in serious condition, while a passenger, 6-year-old Keith Johnson, is critical at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. Johnson was flown in by Lifeteam.
Josiah Alfred, 2, and Amber Alfred, 20, both of Junction City, died in the crash. The four people in the Silverado were taken to Herington Hospital for treatment of various injuries. Troopers said no one in either vehicle had their seatbelts on at the time of the accident.
