Salina priest sentenced in battery case
A Salina priest has been sentenced to six months probation after he was accused of inappropriately touching another man.
The Associated Press reports the Reverend Allen Scheer of Sacred Heart Cathedral was originally scheduled to go on trial Wednesday for misdemeanor sexual battery before he agreed to plea no contest to misdemeanor battery.
A statement from the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Salina said Scheer may return to ministry, but only after he has been evaluated by health care professionals and diocese leaders. Scheer had been placed on administrative leave since his arrest.
