Goddard teen remains critical following crash
A motorist who saw a bumper laying close to the side of the road decided to call 911 early Tuesday. A Sedgwick County Sheriff Deputy later found a wrecked pickup, wedged into a tree row south of U.S. 54 on 231st Street West.
The driver was hurt.
"The deputy had to break a window to gain entry and get him out, but he was unconscious when the deputy arrived," said Sedgwick County Sheriff Sergeant Keith Allen.
The doors to the pickup were locked and trees were blocking the doors.
Jeffrey Reece, 16, of Goddard, was taken by ambulance to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis where he was in critical condition early Wednesday.
"He was traveling south on 231st Street West and went down into the ditch. He appeared to lose control in the west ditch and then swerve into the east ditch where he struck a big, heavy row of trees," said Allen. "It's possible he was out there for a few hours before he was found."
