Man in Harvey County crash is improving
A fatal accident remains under investigation by the Harvey County Sheriff's Office.
It happened about 9 p.m. Monday when a westbound pick-up collided with a Saturn station wagon traveling north on Ridge at 1st Street. The driver of the Saturn, 52-year-old Donald Nickles of Hesston, was taken to Wesley Medical Center, where he has improved from critical to serious condition.
A passenger, 28-year-old Jessie Stroup of Alton, Kan., was ejected and died at Newton Medical Center. The driver of the truck, 40-year-old Bryan Reed of Hutchinson, was not hurt. He was arrested on numerous charges, including vehicular homicide. Reed was taken to jail.
In a news release, Sheriff T. Walton said formal charges will be made after review by the Harvey County Attorney. The Kansas Highway Patrol, Harvey County Sheriff's Office and Newton Fire/EMS worked the accident.
