Around a dozen people carried signs outside Wichita City Hall on Friday to show support for the police department.

The rally was organized by wives of police officers and local citizens as a response to recent protests held over officer-involved shooting incidents. Several protests have been held at city hall. A community meeting was held Thursday night at Wichita State University to talk about several incidents where officers used deadly force during a confrontation.

Several officers' wives organized the rally. One of them said it wasn't held to be against anyone or to show disrespect to the protests. She said the rally was intended to show support and appreciation for the officers who serve the community.

Organizers are hoping the rally will be a weekly event.

The rally was held in front of the Law Enforcement Memorial on the southwest corner of Central and Main.
