Sumner County budget reduces taxes for next year
Sumner County commissioners have finalized a budget for next year, and it includes a 27 percent reduction in the county's property tax rate. Gaming revenues from the Kansas Star Casino have resulted in a reduction of almost 15 mills for Sumner County property owners.
The county receives 1 percent of the gaming revenue generated by the casino. So far this year the county has received over $1 million. There has also been a dramatic increase in the amount of property tax revenue.
The taxes on a $100,000 home in Sumner County will drop by about $200 a year because of the mill levy reduction.
