Jury convicts man for fatal crash
A Sedgwick County jury has handed down a guilty verdict against a man who was fleeing a traffic stop in 2004 when he caused a fatal crash at 47th St. S. and Meridian.
Gregory Berry, 30, was convicted of first-degree murder in 2005, but the Kansas Supreme Court threw out the conviction because it said the jury should have been allowed to consider less-serious charges. In its decision, the high court did not dispute the fact that Berry caused the crash during a high-speed chase.
In his second trial, Berry was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 55-year-old Vicki Brown. A sentencing date has been set for Sept. 26.
