Man with Down Syndrome beaten by stepfather
A 44-year-old man with Down Syndrome is recovering from injuries sustained after he was abused by his 37-year-old stepfather.
Wichita Police Sergeant Scott Brunow said the abuse was reported to police around 9 p.m. Friday by the victim's 41-year-old brother, who suspected that abuse was going on at a home in the 300 block of south Meadow Haven.
Brunow said the victim sustained broken toes after being hit with a hammer, broken fingers after being hit with a pair of pliers and a screw driver, as well as a hematoma to the ear after being hit with a fist.
The abuse likely occured during the day on Friday, Brunow said.
The stepfather was arrested and booked into jail on charges of aggravated battery.
