One dead in rollover accident in Valley Center
One person is dead after a one-vehicle accident in Valley Center early Sunday morning.
Valley Center Police Sergeant Matt Vogt said two men in a 2004 Ford Explorer crashed near Allen and Meridian around 2:20 a.m.
"When the officers arrived, they found a vehicle rolled over on its driver's side that had struck a power pole," Vogt said. "They were coming northbound on Meridian, and apparently the driver had lost control of the vehicle. That's what caused it to hit a curb, and that's what caused it to hit the utility pole and then roll over."
Vogt said 39-year-old Juan Massu-Lerma was dead on scene. The passenger, 42, was not hurt. Both men are from Wichita.
The passenger was asleep when the vehicle wrecked, Vogt said. Alcohol may have been a factor.
"Preliminarily, there may have been alcohol contributing to the crash, but we're still waiting until we get the toxicology back from the forensics center to confirm that," Vogt said.
