Wichita Police evacuate some apartments after hearing of man with a rifle
A few apartments were evacuated and traffic was blocked at Pawnee and Rock Road after Wichita Police received word of a man with a rifle on a balcony.
"A security guard went to a building in an apartment in the complex because there was loud music coming from the apartment," according to Police Sergeant Dan Oblinger. "He spoke to the resident there and at some point the apartment resident brandished a rifle and the security officer felt threatened.
"When the officers arrived around 1 a.m., they evacuated some of the neighbors and attempted to speak to the resident," said Oblinger. "The resident came out ... was not compliant ... was taken into custody, and was found to have been armed with a rifle."
Oblinger said the man was arrested.
KFDI asked Oblinger if the resident was holding the rifle when police spoke to him. He said he was not.
