Relative steals motorcycle, wrecks, taken to hospital
A man stole a motorcycle from his relatives in the 6100 block of W. 35th St. around 4:30 p.m. on Monday. He later wound up in the hospital.
The relatives found out the bike had been stolen when Wichita police visited their house. Officers said a motorcycle registered to the homeowners had just been wrecked.
A 38-year-old man at the home said he thought he heard noises in the garage earlier, but assumed something had just fallen at the time.
"They went out to their garage and noticed that the motorcycle was missing," said Lieutenant Doug Nolte. "There was a tag in their garage that did not belong to the motorcycle."
The homeowners said a relative may have known there was a motorcycle in the garage, and believed he may have been a suspect.
"Officers went to the location where they believed the suspect was with the house number they were given," Nolte said. "When they were there, a neighbor stated that an ambulance had stopped by the house and taken someone right before officers arrived."
Police found the man at Wesley Medical Center. He had suffered serious injuries from wrecking the motorcycle. Officers were unable to question him at the time due to his condition.
