One suspect is in custody but another remains on the loose following a foiled residential burglary attempt.

An alert neighbor called 911 after seeing two men breaking into a home in the 2200 block of E. 20th St. around 11:55 p.m. Monday.

"When officers began to get in the area, two suspects he observed came out of the house and officers began to chase them," said Wichita Police Lieutenant Doug Nolte.

One suspect, an 18-year-old man, tried to escape by taking off in a 2000 Chevy Malibu. He later wrecked near 19th and Spruce, and a brief chase with police was ended when he was taken into custody in the 2000 block of N. Grove.

The homeowner later confirmed some stolen items were inside the vehicle.

The second suspect fled on foot. He is described as a black male wearing a white T-shirt with a cast or brace on his right arm.
