The TSA is hoping some changes to the security lanes at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport will ease some of the congestion, especially in the morning when there are a lot of people flying out of Wichita.
Keith Osburn of the TSA in Wichita said two more security lanes and an X-ray machine have been added.
"The exit lane now is much wider and easier to go down," said Osburn. "Another advantage is those folks who are pushing wheelchairs don't have to stop on the ramp any longer to wait to go through security. They can come all the way to the top and they're on a flat surface from there on out."
"This gives us an extra 25 percent more capacity since we went from three X-rays (machines) to four so we can now process more passengers in the same amount of time," said Osburn. "That has been very helpful, particularly in the morning when we have so many departures that are close together."
TSA employees from other cities are in Wichita to help with security until more agents can be hired locally.
