Purse snatcher caught in west Wichita parking lot
Wichita Police say a 51-year-old man ended up in the hospital after he grabbed the purse of a 92-year-old woman and dragged her a short distance in a west Wichita parking lot.
The incident happened around 4 p.m. Thursday outside a Dillons store at Central and West Street.
Lt. Doug Nolte said three witnesses heard the woman scream and then saw the man trying to get away with the purse. One witness got into a struggle with a suspect while another called 911, then a third witness helped to get the suspect under control.
Nolte said the suspect dropped the purse and then tried to get away, but he struck his head on a post. The suspect went to a hospital with a skull fracture.
Nolte reported late Friday that the man was released and then booked into jail. The man is expected to face charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.
The 92-year-old woman suffered some minor scrapes in the attack.
