Homeowner fires shot at robbers
A man who lives in southeast Wichita fired a shot at three robbers.
Around 3:30 a.m., three young men broke into a home in the 2100 block of Lori Lane. Wichita Police Sergeant Charles Newman said the suspects got in through a sliding glass door while the 66-year-old man who lives in the house was asleep in his living room chair. The man was confronted by the intruders, and they told him to sit down and he wouldn't be hurt.
"They took some electronics and cash. As they were leaving the residence, the occupant did fire one round from a pistol he had with him," Newman said.
Lieutenant Doug Nolte reported later that one of the men cried out that he had been hit, and the intruders rushed out of the house. Nolte said officers found some blood in the area where the victim fired the shot.
The robbers took a television, an iPad and some cash. They were described as white males around 6-feet-2-inches to 6-feet-4-inches tall and around 250 to 280 pounds. They were in their mid 20s to early 30s
One had short red hair, another had short brown hair and the third had blonde-brown wavy hair. They were wearing hooded jackets and blue jeans. It's not known if the men were armed.
Nolte said anyone who has information or knows someone who has a gunshot injury is urged to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.
