A 2012 graduate of Wichita Southeast High School was stabbed near Caldwell Elementary just after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Wichita Police Lt. Jose Salcido said the man, 18 or 19 years old, got into an argument with three men who were playing basketball on the elementary school property.

"He was actually out in the sidewalk area. He had a confrontation with the three individuals that were playing basketball," said Salcido. "Apparently they must have known each other, because there was conversation for a while leading up to the disturbance. It didn't immediately start."

The victim was found by a car near the sidewalk outside the school on Boston. Salcido said he was not aware how many times the man had been stabbed.

"An officer was working off-duty and actually found the victim that had been stabbed," Salcido said.

The three suspects fled westbound on foot immediately following the attack. Salcido said the men were likely 15-19 years old. He said there were a few witnesses in the park area of the school.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

Southeast High School is located a few blocks north of Caldwell.
