Wichita Police have arrested a suspect in the stray bullet death of an 8-year-old girl at a south side mobile home park. The girl, identified as Kimbra Moore, was asleep in her bedroom in the 3000 block of south Broadway early Tuesday when a stray bullet struck her in the head.

About 7 p.m. Tuesday, 24-year-old Zachary Gaston of Derby was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on charges of first degree murder, aggravated battery and criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling. A 28-year-old woman was also arrested for outstanding warrants and for aiding a felon.

Police questioned and released two other people who were involved in a confrontation that led to the shooting.

Formal charges are expected to be filed later this week.

Wichita Police Lt. Todd Ojile said police are still looking into the causes of the shooting incident. A group of four people got into a dispute with another man, who jumped into a car and sped away. Shots were fired at the car, and stray bullets hit two mobile homes.

Moore was killed by one bullet, and another struck a 46-year-old woman in another home. The woman was treated and released for a graze wound.

Ojile said police have found the 2011 Ford Focus that they were looking for, but the driver is still being sought. The car belonged to one of the two people who were questioned and released. It was found early Wednesday in Planeview Park.
