Murder charge filed against suspect in girl's death
The man accused of firing a shot that killed a sleeping girl Tuesday has been charged with 1st degree murder in Wichita.
Zachary Gaston, 24, was booked into jail after the altercation in the 3000 block of S. Broadway that took the life of Kimbra Moore. The 8-year-old girl was sleeping in her family's mobile home when she was struck in the head.
Also arrested was Jessica Padilla, 28, for allegedly aiding and abetting Gaston.
Gaston made his first appearance in Sedgwick County district court, and he was charged with 1st degree murder, aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle, and criminal possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $500,000 preliminary hearing was scheduled for September 20th.
Another suspect in the case, 28-year-old Jessica Padilla of Wichita, has been charged with interference with law enforcement officers, a felony. Her preliminary hearing was also scheduled for September 20th.
