Storms bring large hail, wind to Wichita area
Severe thunderstorms quickly developed over Wichita Friday afternoon, bringing quarter-to-golf-ball-sized hail along with heavy rains and strong winds.
The storms developed around 3 p.m. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for eastern Sedgwick County and southern Butler County. More warnings were issued as the storms moved east. There were reports of winds up to 65-70 mph in Butler County and some areas of southeast Kansas.
There were power outages in southeast Wichita and the Andover area, with Westar Energy reporting around 2,700 customers without power in Sedgwick County. There were no reports of major damage from the storm.
