Police make major drug bust in southeast Wichita
Pictures taken from a real estate agent's cell phone led police to make a significant drug bust in southeast Wichita late last month.
The home is located in the 1900 block of south Shiloh, near the intersection of Harry and Greenwich Road.
Wichita Police Sergeant Bruce Watts said the home owner contacted police after seeing pictures of marijuana in the home from her real estate agent's cell phone. It is believed that the home owner's husband gave the tenants the keys to the home prior to their scheduled move in date of Sept. 1.
Police cordoned off the home and stopped several vehicles leaving that address, one of which was the renter of the home. Watts said the renter was apprehended and allowed the home to be searched.
Once police went in the home, they recovered roughly 120 pounds of hydroponic marijuana, considered to be high-grade, and a GMC Denali. The marijuana has a street value of $300,000.
The renter of the home was arrested and has a previous history of entering the United States illegally. He is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail under the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, while the U.S. attorney decides on formal charges.
