Fire destroys home in south Wichita
Wichita Firefighters never had much of a chance to enter a home that was the scene of a house fire late Saturday night. It happened around 11:30 p.m. at 1633 South Water.
Firefighters were sent to check on the report of smoke outside when they found the back of the home in flames. Crews attempted to make entry, but the roof of the home started to collapse and a live power line fell in the back yard.
Firefighters pulled out and fought the fire defensively. Battalion Chief Kevin Royce said there is extensive damage, and the home will be a total loss.
Investigators were never able to enter the home due to the extensive damage. Crews are still on scene putting out hot spots.
Royce said investigators won't be able to start working until it is safe for them to go inside. No injuries were reported.
Royce said the home was in the process of being vacated. The tennant had been moving out this weekend.
It's not known when a cause for the fire can be determined.
