Sedgwick County Fire Department crews discovered a body in a burned out home near Derby Monday morning. The fire broke out at a two-story home near 87th Street South and Greenwich Road.

The name of the victim has not been released. The Wichita Eagle spoke with relatives, who identified the victim as 53 year-old Kathy O'Brien, who lived alone at the house.

Puffs of white smoke could be seen inside the home. Operations Division Chief Doug Williams said the two-story home will be a total loss. It's unknown if anyone was home at the time the fire broke out about 1:44 a.m. Monday.

Damage to the home was estimated between $250,000 and $300,000.

The Sheriff's Office strung yellow crime scene tape across the drive-way to keep curiosity seekers out. Construction equipment was called to the scene to remove rubble so investigators can determine a cause of the fire. Wichita, Mulvane, Rose Hill and Derby crews also responded to the scene.
