Wichita woman arrested after son is reported missing
Wichita police arrested a 45-year-old woman after her son went missing for over 24 hours. The 11-year-old boy left his home Friday in the 2200 block of South Broadway, but he did not show up for school.
Police lieutenant Doug Nolte said the mother reported the boy missing Friday evening, and a search was conducted, but nothing was found. The boy returned home around 4 Saturday afternoon, and he had been visiting friends' homes. Nolte said there was no indication that the boy was in any danger.
Nolte said the mother did not know who her son's friends were, and she had reported the boy as a runaway. The mother was arrested for child endangerment, and the boy, his brother and his sister were taken into protective custody.
Nolte says it's important for parents to know where their children are going to be and to know who their children's friends are.
