A former victim in another case was sentenced for robbing a bank in his hometown.

27 year-old Carlos Manuel Buten of Dodge City was sentenced Monday in Wichita to serve 46 months in federal prison. He admitted robbing the Western State Bank April 17 of this year. Buten was arrested at the Western Holiday Motel in Wichita, where he was staying at the time.

An FBI agents affidavit in the case stated that a witness said that the robber had a accent resembling someone from the Caribbean Islands. That information , along with surveillance photos from the bank, helped investigators identify Buten, who had come in contact with police as a victim in another case.

Co-defendant, 38 year-old Tammy  Harris of Dodge City, is awaiting trial of being accessory to the fact to the bank robbery. She denied knowledge of the bank robbery as she drove Buten to Wichita. U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom commended the Dodge City Police Department and the FBI for work on the case.
