Man tries to rob pharmacy at southeast Wichita Wal-Mart store
Wichita police took a man into custody after he tried to rob the pharmacy of a Wal-Mart store.
Police lieutenant Sam Hanley said the man walked into a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Store at 9831 East Harry just after 1 p.m. The man had a handgun, and he demanded pain medications from the pharmacy. As officers arrived, the man ran out of the store and into a field. Hanley said the man pulled out a box knife and gave himself severe cuts on the neck and left wrist. Officers used a taser to take the man into custody, and he was treated by an EMS crew.
Hanley said officers found a black handgun in the area. No one in the store was hurt.
The robber is believed to be around 25 years of age.
