Spirit AeroSystems worker dies after fall
An employee with about five years service at Spirit AeroSystems died Tuesday of injuries he suffered the previous afternoon in a fall.
The man, who was about 30, fell about 12 feet onto concrete at Spirit's Plant II. Spirit is working with outside authorities to investigate the cause and circumstances of the accident. The man suffered a fractured skull.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office expects to release the man's name on Wednesday.
Spirit AeroSystems released the following statement Tuesday evening via email:
"We are deeply saddened that one of our team members, who has been a colleague for more than 5 years, has passed away. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family. The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority. We do not yet know all of the circumstances surrounding the situation and are conducting a thorough investigation. At this sad time, we are keeping our teammate’s family in our thoughts and prayers."
