A pro-fluoride group in Wichita is calling attention to a decision by the city council in Portland, Oregon to add fluoride to that city's drinking water.

The group Wichitans for Healthy Teeth said the decision leaves Wichita as the largest city in the mainland United States without fluoride.

The group is continuing its campaign to urge voters to approve the fluoride issue that will be on the Nov. 6 general election ballot. The group has started distributing a voter guide that will provide information on the costs and benefits of fluoridation.

In a press release, the group said three large cities - Portland, Santa Fe and Phoenix - have taken pro-fluoridation actions.

Opponents of flouride have raised concerns about negative health effects.
