Police investigate possible gang-related fight
Police are looking into possible gang involvement in a fight that led to shots being fired in a northeast Wichita neighborhood. A resident reported hearing shots in the 2900 block of East 24th Street North around 6:30 Wednesday evening. Lieutenant Doug Nolte said the witness reported a fight in the street, then shots were fired and people began running through yards and running down the street.
Nolte said a house was hit by a stray bullet, but the 2 people inside were not hurt. Officers stopped a vehicle with 3 people inside a short time after the shooting, and the people in the car said they were the ones being shot at. Officers found that one of them, a 17-year-old boy, was carrying a handgun and he was then arrested.
Nolte said police are working to determine if the incident was gang-related. He said officers are looking for three people for questioning.
