Starting tonight, bars and clubs in the Old Town entertainment district will have extra sets of eyes searching for suspicious activity.

It's part of a crime prevention effort between local businesses and police.

"Time has to bear out if we're getting better or getting worse and we can't definitively say either way right now because crime is not very high in that area - it really isn't," Wichita Police Lt. Doug Nolte said.

Local businesses in Old Town and police have been meeting to come up long-term solutions. The Wichita Police Mounted Patrol Unit will be on hand for crowd control.

Nolte said patrons will see crowd control improvements, but encourages the public to take responsibility for their own actions in Old Town.
