Wichita plans improvements for recreation centers
The city of Wichita is moving ahead with plans to spend $1 million to make needed improvements to the city's recreation centers. The plan is a response to concerns raised in public input meetings last year as the city worked to restructure recreation programs.
Parks and Recreation Director Doug Kupper said there will be security improvements at the Evergreen, Edgemor, Orchard, Linwood and McAdams recreation centers. He said there were concerns about lighting in parking lots and security measures within the buildings.
The city also plans to renovate former athletic offices to create a fitness center at Linwood. There will also be signs placed at recreation centers to call attention to programs that are being offered.
Kupper said there are plans to replace window glass and make some energy efficient upgrades at the Edgemoor center.
