New bus route begins in west Wichita
Changes are being made in bus service in west Wichita. The West Central and the Westside connector routes will be merged beginning Saturday.
The West Maple route will also be changed to provide service to Mid-Continent Airport.
Wichita Transit planning analyst Michell Stroot said the Westside Connector route has had the lowest number of riders in the past, and it's hoped the new route will be more successful. She said most of the new route will be within two blocks of the former West Central route.
Stroot said the new route will still be called the Westside Connector, and will have hourly service on Saturdays. On Monday through Friday, it will have half-hour service during the peak times of 5:50 to 8:20 a.m. and from 3:20 to 6:50 p.m.
The Westside Connector route does not go downtown to the Transit Center, so riders will have to transfer to the West Maple route. They can make that transfer at the southeast corner of Maple and Ridge Road.
