Great Bend man dies in Barton County crash
A Great Bend man is dead and a Topeka man hospitalized in Wichita following a crash Sunday morning in Barton County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 42- year-old Richard Newick was driving south on U-281 and ran the stop sign on K-4 highway. His Ford pickup truck was struck by a 2000 Acura driven by 28-year-old Corey Schwerdt of Topeka.
Newick's truck went into the ditch, struck a telephone pole and rolled over onto the driver's side. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Schwerdt was airlifted to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in Wichita, where he is in serious condition. The accident happened just after 11:30 a.m. Sunday
