Wichita police took two men into custody after finding a handgun in a car in the city's Old Town entertainment district.

Lieutenant Joe Schroeder said officers saw the men acting suspiciously near a car in the 200 block of North Mead late Friday night. The men saw the officers and walked away, then they tried to blend into a crowd of people nearby.

Schroeder said officers looked into the car and saw a handgun on the floorboard. There were also open containers of alcohol inside. They caught up with the men, and one of them admitted that it was his gun. He told officers he had it for protection because of recent disturbances in Old Town.

The 27-year-old man was arrested for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
