Students will get a chance to fly in mentoring program
Airbus and the United Way of the Plains kicked off a program Monday to inspire Wichita teenagers to look at careers in aviation, and recognize the importance of math and science in pursuing those careers. The Flying Challenge program will run throughout the school year for 71 students at Brooks Middle School. They spent the day at Exploration Place to get an introduction to the program and meet with their mentors from Airbus and Wichita State University.
During a special presentation, Airbus Americas president Barry Ecdleston announced a special conclusion that is planned for the program. He said in the spring, each student will be able to fly in a small airplane after a tour of the National Center for Aviation Training.
Airbus has sponsored a similar program in France, but this is the first Flying Challenge program in the United States.
