Police chase leads to crash in southeast Wichita
Wichita Police are working to determine why two men fled rather than stop for officers after they were spotted speeding early Tuesday morning in southeast Wichita. It began around 1:45 when officers spotted a dark-colored SUV driving east at a high speed on Pawnee at Woodlawn.
Lt. Jeff Gilmore said the officers turned on their lights and started pursuing the vehicle, which continued east and refused to stop. The dark blue Jeep drove past the intersection of Rock Road before turning east onto Cherry Creek Drive.
Gilmore said officers slowed down due to the area being a residential neighborhood. The suspects continued on until they approached Cypress, where the driver lost control and left the road.
Gilmore said the Jeep crashed into the ravine and rolled several times before coming to a rest. One of the suspects suffered serious injuries and was taken by EMS to the hospital.
The second suspect had minor injuries. Gilmore said at the scene that is was still unclear why the two men tried to get away.
