Midtown power outage in Wichita during rush hour
Westar Energy restored power to 1900 customers in three different areas of Wichita.
The power outage happened at 7:45 a.m. A switch burned up at a substation at 17th and Topeka, causing power outages from Broadway to St. Francis, Ninth St. to 17th, 17th to 21st from Topeka to Santa Fe and 13th to 21st from Mosley to Madison.
Wichita-Sedgwick County 911 Dispatchers urged motorists to treat affected intersections as four-way stops. Shane Batchelder of Westar said the electricity was turned back on just after 9:00 a.m. He said there were about 100 other customers experiencing outages in smaller areas of the city.
