Sedgwick County is looking to sell a communications tower and the five-acre site it sits on. The tower is located near the former Wichita Greyhound Park at 77th Street North and I-135.

County commissioners will consider the sale at their regular meeting Wednesday. Pixius Communications wants to buy the tower for $280,000.

County Manager Bill Buchanan said the county has an antenna on the tower for 911 communications, but when the 911 upgrade is completed next year, the county won't need the tower any longer. AT&T and Verizon Wireless also have equipment on the tower.

Buchanan said he doesn't believe county government needs to be in the tower rental business unless the county is also using the tower.
