Man kills himself while on phone with dispatcher
Wichita Police say a man killed himself while talking on the telephone with an emergency dispatcher.
Lt. Mike Hennessy said the man had been walking in the area of 13th and Tyler Road.
"Shortly after that, he called dispatch and made some suicidal statements, and then the dispatcher could hear the gunshot," said Hennessy. "Shortly after that call, we did find a white male lying in the area. He was pronounced dead at the scene."
Later, it was revealed the dispatcher reported hearing two gunshots. The man had shot himself in the chest.
Hennessy said the 37-year-old man was found on the sidewalk to the west of the clinic ER entrance, next to Tyler Road. Hennessy did not know why the man shot himself.
