Bel Aire one of 81 Kansas police departments involved in National Drug Take Back Day

Bel Aire is one of several communities in Kansas that will receive expired prescription drugs, like painkillers, this Saturday during National Drug Take Back Day.  

"We will take expired prescription drugs and unused painkillers Saturday from 10 o'clock in the morning until two in the afternoon in the community room at the city building, 7651 East Central Park Avenue in Bel Aire," said Police Chief John Daily.

Daily said his community took custody of 264 pounds of pills during National Drug Take Back Day in 2011.

 "81 police departments in Kansas worked with the DEA in this effort," said Daily.  

Last year, Haysville Police received 200 pounds of unused painkillers and other drugs, while Maize took in 108 pounds.  

Nationwide, the Drug Enforcement Administration received 8,753 pounds of pills.
