The Wichita Police Department has completed an investigation into an incident where an officer fired shots in a south side neighborhood.

In that Sept. 4 incident in the 2800 block of West Pawnee, the officer said he was doing paperwork in his patrol car when he saw someone looking around the corner of a building. That person then pointed what appeared to be a rifle at the officer, and the officer fired several shots.

No one was found when police searched the area.

In a statement issued Wednesday, police chief Norman Williams said the initial investigation revealed some concerns. The officer was suspended as a result of the investigation, and information will be presented to the district attorney's office this week.

Williams said the WPD's Professional Standards Bureau has also started an administrative investigation of the incident.
