Salina Police officer returns home
A Salina Police officer who was shot in the face, leading to a standoff with an armed suspect, has been released from the hospital. Officer Charleton "Chuck" Huen, was taken to a hospital in Oklahoma City after he was shot.
Salina Police spokesperson Erin Matthews tells our news partners at KWCH 12 that the 38-year-old veteran officer will require additional surgeries. Huen was shot while responding to the report of a stolen vehicle late Thursday night in the 308 block of North 13th in Salina.
The shooting led to a standoff with the 19-year-old suspect. Marjon Gaston was found dead inside following an exchange of gunfire with police and tear gas being fired into the home.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is handling the case. It is the first time a Salina Police officer has been shot while on duty since 1986.
