Fire destroys vacant home
A home is a total loss after a fire early Sunday morning. Wichita firefighters were called to the scene shortly after midnight to the 1800 block of S. Euclid near Meridian and Orient.
Battalion Chief Kevin Royse said that when crews arrived at the scene, flames could be seen coming from the home. Firefighters took up a defensive position outiside of the house to fight the fire.
Portions of the roof had already collapsed, preventing crews from getting inside to determine if anyone may have been trapped. Royse said the home did appear to be vacant.
The home did have electricity connected to it, but the gas had been shut off. Crews also had to contend with a downed power line in the back.
Investigators are still looking for a cause. Royse did not have a damage estimate available at the scene.
