Death brings U.S. military total to 2,000 since Afghanistan surge
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) The U.S. military is confirming the deaths of two Americans in eastern Afghanistan, including a military member and a civilian contractor.
The military death brings the number of American troops killed the 11-year war to 2,000.
The international coalition in Afghanistan said earlier today that one of its service members was killed in a suspected insider attack by Afghan forces yesterday. A U.S. official said that the dead service member was American. Another official confirmed the nationality of the civilian contractor. Officials say two Afghan army members also died. The deaths are under investigation.
The number of American dead reflects an Associated Press count of those members of the armed services killed inside Afghanistan since the U.S.-led invasion on Oct. 7, 2001.
