Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office identifies found body, suspect arrested
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office has identified the body of a woman found in a ditch near Campus High School.
Investigators said the victim is 38-year-old Amber Kostner of Wichita. A passerby spotted the body Sunday around 10:20 a.m. in the 2100 block of West 55th Street South. A 41-year-old Wichita man was arrested Sunday evening and booked into the Sedgwick County Detention Center for suspicion of first degree murder.
Sheriff's Deputies were investigating a scene near Central and Knight. It is not confirmed if that is related to the suspect or victim in this case. Sheriff's major Mike Oliver said there are several locations in Wichita that are under investigation. He said it's not believed that Kostner was killed at the location where she was found.
Oliver said Kostner had been living with the suspect for several months, and it appears a domestic argument may have led to her death, but detectives are still talking to witnesses and gathering information in the case.
Oliver said Kostner's death was believed to be the result of blunt force trauma, but an autopsy was being conducted. The case will be presented to the District Attorney's Office for formal charges later this week.
