Wichita residents involved with fatal crash in Greenwood County
A semi and two cars were involved in a fatal rollover crash.
Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers said the driver of a westbound car, 26-year-old Tracie Lynn Leonard of Howard, Kan. tried to avoid a passing eastbound car and semi, but was struck on the driver's side door. Troopers said the cars entered the north ditch to avoid collision with each other.
Leonard's car rolled onto its top and came to rest facing northwest. The other car came to rest on its wheels facing south.
Leonard died at a Greenwood County Hospital. A passenger, 15-year-old James Bearden of Wichita, was also taken to Greenwood County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Three people in the other car were identified as 19-year-old Chaz Weslee Mack, 19-year-old Chantell Marie Thompson and 19-year-old Kevin Allen Price, all of Wichita. Troopers said Mack was not hurt, but Thompson and Price were checked out at the hospital.
The driver of the semi, 44-year-old Mohand Ouramdane Abdi of Wichita, was not hurt.
The accident happened Sunday on US-400, just east of Beaumont in Greenwood County.
