Kansas infant mortality rate dropped in 2011
The 2011 Kansas infant mortality report was released Wednesday by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s Bureau of Epidemiology and Public Health Informatics.
The number of infant deaths in Kansas dropped from 253 in 2010 to 247 in 2011. It resulted in an infant mortality rate of 6.2 per 1,000 live births.
It is slightly lower than the rate of 6.3 in 2010. The 2011 rate of 6.2 was the lowest infant mortality rate in Kansas since record keeping began in 1912. The research brief can be found online at www.kdheks.gov/hci/infant_mortality.htm.
