A semi driver was killed when he took an off ramp too fast from the Kellogg Turnpike near Kellogg.

"We had a semi that was exiting southbound from the Turnpike. He just was a little too fast, it appears, on the ramp and lost control, and ended up overturning in the median," said Kansas Highway Patrol Captain Joe Bott. "He was pinned underneath, and they did have to raise the tractor up a little bit to get him out."

The semi was hauling cartons of soymilk. Bott said the Kansas Department of Health and Environment condemned the load, allowing a wrecker to clean up the product that spilled onto the highway.

The Kansas Turnpike Patrol identifies the driver as 52-year-old Abdikarim Haile from St. Cloud, Minn.

The wreck happened around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.
