Strong odor forces evacuation in Salina neighborhood
Several homes were evacuated in a north Salina neighborhood Wednesday morning, after residents reported a strong odor.
The odor was reported Tuesday night in the 1200 block of North 7th Street, according to our news partners at KWCH, Channel 12. Salina firefighters and Kansas Gas Service crews checked the area, but nothing was found at that time. Several people reported headaches Wednesday morning, and that led to the evacuation of several homes and a daycare center.
Crews found a 55-gallon drum inside a shed, and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment is working to identify the substance inside the drum.
No serious health effects were reported.
